Extended Cab

I mean.. CALF!

God bless shoe designers that are now embracing the wide calf! I bow before you.

Ladies.. Honest to goodness, I bought my first pair of knee high boots today. Like, first EVER. I’ve always had wide calves, even when I wasn’t super heavy. As I gained weight I gave up hope on all boots.  Then I bought myself some over the knee socks. Ya’ll this stuff FIT.

I have to say, if you are budget conscious like I tend to be, Payless is the way to go! They have 4 different type of extended calf sizes and they are even wide.

I managed to snag the Rory boots in the faux leather!

To give you an example of fit, I bought a 9W. My calf is about 17.5 inches (holy heck). Generally I can zipper the boot until almost all the way up. I tend to be about an in or so off from a full zipper. With the new extended calf, I was able to zipper them with NO problem. Even more exciting, I was able to wear sicks and a pair of pants folded into them! That’s unheard of in my world!!!!

This might help you decide on fit too!

PS. The Rory boot was $39.99 and they have a BOGO until Wednesday.. Just sayin…

I’ve already been planning outfits around my boots like a total girl. That never, ever happens. I’m so excited! Today was a really good day and I even got in over 3.5 miles on my pedometer!

Booty Beautiful

Hey ladies!

I can finally say that I am feeling back in business. It’s shaming to realize how much I missed this. My first day back with exercises was pretty brutal. I was amazed at what a few simple weeks of lack luster workouts did to my body. My first real workout was yesterday and I kept it small. I did some planks, pushups and a short full body weight and resistance band workout I devised (more on that some other time!). Today my body felt like I had spent HOURS at the gym. Every muscle was crampy. I’m telling ya, I added one new move that made my sides ache! Yowza. But ya know what? Mentally I felt amazing. I finally felt like I had a clear head and even noticed a lack in my constant hunger battle! I’m feeling like I have more energy, and a better attitude.

Okay, I might be getting ahead of myself, but damn I feel good.

Today I focused on a lot of warming up and stretches to ease my tense back and ab muscles. I worked on some booty workouts. Unlike a lot of overweight gals, I’m Okay with my booty. I can thank my PR roots for giving me enough of a butt to get by. I don’t have a massive one and it’s not totally ghastly IMO. But it goes need toning and firming just like the rest of me. Granted I’m buried under layers of fat, but there’s no harm in getting it all toned and ready for when the weight is less! Am I right?

I added Plie Squats to my workout. Shakira does Plie Squats, and well, we all know her hips don’t lie. She’s been said to do Plie Squats and squeezing her booty 30 times.

Ladies, let me just say- my booty is on FIRE. Normally when I do a squat I can “feel” it, and I’m like “ooook”. This one, with the tush squeezing? I can feel it in not only my booty, but in the backs of my thighs. Ya know that mystical “Burn” they always say you’ll feel? I got it in spades. I did 5 of these where I did the squat and squeezed 30 times. Then I did another 5 where I squeezed and held for 30 seconds. I felt the 30 second hold the most shortly after I released. And repeat! You can add more of a challenge my using a weight held between your legs. I like these a lot.

These are also something that pregnant women are okayed to do. it’s been said to “mimic” a birthing pose. I don’t know? Maybe, Either way, I figure it’s something that us big belly chicks can do!

Trying New Things

Hey y’all!

I’m sorry I’ve been so MIA lately. If I’m being honest, I’ve been avoiding posting. I don’t have much to say aside from that this round of things is becoming a failure. I’m not losing the weight like I want to be and it’s annoying as all get out.

I’m finding it a lot harder to get into the swing of things for one reason or another. Our fridge/freezer has been slowly killing itself for the past few weeks. It’s made meal pre planning nearly impossible. One day everything is happy and cold, the next the freezer defrosted and there is so much waste. Imagine freshly frozen berries defrosting into red slush- yeaaah. 2 repair men later it was announced that the cost to fix it was more than a new one would be. So food wise I’ve been struggling. Another factor here is that until the past few days, it’s been running in the high 90’s. My In Laws aren’t fond of turning on the stove in the heat- so cooking became a burden. Food has not been my friend in a house that survives on fast food, frozen dishes and constantly eating out. I’ve had 2 home cooked dinners in a month. My stomach can attest to this.

As for exercise, it’s minimal. Weekends are more productive because we are always on the move. I’m hoping with this new fall weather that I can’t get into the swing of things again. When it’s 96 degrees out and your AC doesn’t work properly, heat stroke is a huge issue.

With that said- those 10 lbs + have firmly cemented themselves into my life. I’m working on it! Sigh.

We did something new and interesting yesterday morning. There was a local Wild Rice Festival near us! We’ve been to some festivals in the past that have stunk (ie: the blueberry fest we drove 2 hours to only to have 1 stand of anything berry related.) I was pretty sceptical on this one. I was also pleasantly proved wrong.

We started out walking down a great path to a building in the woods. I need to go back here to check out their nature board walk trails! They were offering a pancake breakfast. The half hour wait in a line was pretty sucky but SO worth it! I decided to be adventurous and try the wild rice pancakes. Essentially, they replace 1/3 of the regular mixture with powdered wild rice. I asked a bunch of questions and found out it’s pretty good for ya. It adds niacin and a whole plethora of nutrients to your pancakes. Aside from a slightly more crumbled texture- they tasted great. We also embarked on wild rice sausage. Oh man, did I love this. I have to admit I was so hungry and excited I ate everything before I realized I hadn’t taken a picture! Oops.

After we walked back to the main area, we were able to sit in on a demonstration! They had some of the local tribesmen explaining how to harvest wild rice. It was very cool! We basically got to sit around a campfire and learn a new skill. Surprisingly this is something you can get a license to do. The man giving the demonstration told us about his methods and how he can collect 100 lbs of rice in a season. This is more than he could eat in 4 years! Pretty neat!

See? Pretty neat stuff. We also spent some time exploring the area, listening to local musicians and had a demonstration on the honey process! I was a little scared of the bee hive, but I enjoyed watching the removal of the combs and the mixing method! We did a wild rice tasting challenge and jelly taste testing! Let me just say- Lemon/Lime Jalapeno honey gave me nightmares. It was tart and spicy and had a flavor that refused to leave my mouth. That was about the only thing I didn’t love.

I really had a lot of fun. We even went to one of the vendor’s home store! We rounded out the evening with hot sandwiches from Nelson’s Deli! Yum! Overall it was a fun day. We even managed to stop and visit some estate sales too!

Starting Line

Hey y’all!

I’m back- ish. I’ve put this post off long enough, i suppose. It’s time for me to start seriously getting back on the band wagon. The past month really opened my eyes to my emotional eating habits. That being I could eat- all the time. YIKES!

In the past month I have gained back 10 lbs. Yeah.. I had a hard time accepting that one. I had every old excuse lined up. The truth of it being, I just stopped caring. I ate what I wanted and due to 95+ temps- I stopped exercising. The weight instantly came back.

So I start over, what else can I do?

My plan of attack this time around is a bit different. NO more gimmicks. During my last attempt I got into all these “30 day” blah blah blahs. I started fibbing on my calorie counter and it showed. I  listened to a doctor. Guess what? They don’t always know best. I was relatively happy and used to my fruits veggies and meats. I was kicking my cravings- then a Doc stepped in. I was instructed to eat this or that. The only helpful information they passed on was to eat small meals, multiple times a day. I was already doing that- thanks for the bill! Some how I ended up being told to add way more carbs than I was comfortable with. I followed instructions to the letter and gained weight. Carbs are okay in moderations- this felt like overkill, so I stopped caring.

I’m going to focus on healthy FRESH foods. Limiting sugar, simple carbs, fatty meats and sodium. My body does best when it’s fed 5-6 small meals a day. I’m going to find forms of exercise that work for me!

For example, we’ve been trying out archery the past few weeks.

I did it in HS and to this day it’s something I remember liking a lot. I’m not good, in fact it’s safe to say I suck! But ya know what? I LIKE it. I laughed more, and wanted to actively participate! I had fun and I burned 409 calories in an hour! This doesn’t include the slight hike to the baby range we used, and traipsing through the woods and lane to find lost arrows- in 95 degree weather. I got a little tan and I was pouring sweat. It was grand. I’ve enjoyed myself so much that Hubster wants to get me my own bow in something slightly more manageable for me than his long bow. That sucker is hard to pull and my arms are feeling it!

Yep.. really feeling it. Arm vs Bow string.. arm loses. It looks awful, but does not hurt!

Anyway- I’m also going to walk when the weather does not want to kill me. Hopefully more once we’ve moved! We’ll be a short 5 blocks from the cute Main St. with shops and things. I can roam free! I also managed to snag a Wi + wii Fit (2 dif ones) and the Wii fit gear. Everything cost me about $65! Win! I figure if I have something like that- my excuses are limited!

Everyone asks why I don’t just join a gym? I have a lot of reasons for this. One- It’s an unnecessary cost. Two- transportation to and from a gym- where ever it may be relies on others or when my husband isn’t working. It gets tricky and often leaves me having to walk there- which is fine, except when its snowing.. in MN. Third- the people. I don’t mean the patrons, I mean the staff. When I started this journey I had saved money for a few months of gym costs to kick start. I emailed and called some places to find out information on pricing, classes and options. One big red flag popped up at 3 different larger named gyms I checked out in and around out town. No one would quote me a price without seeing me first. This whole idea seemed not only dumb, but fishy to me. Every person I spoke with immediately cut my pricing questions off to schedule a “in house assessment”. They apparently needed to see how fat I was to jack prices up or add things I didn’t WANT. I proved this by emailing one from my current email and from an old college one a few weeks apart. Both were asked for meetings and if not, to answer a series of questions. In one I played my current me (fat, mostly lazy, but knowledgeable person looking for a quiet place to work out without interference) and in another I played the me I hope to end up as (trim, fit, relatively used to always being thin). Not surprisingly the fat me was told I would need to hire their in house trainer for at least  once a week to assess my abilities and the price was  WAY high (talking triple digits a WEEK) vs skinny me who received a flat basic plan.

Gyms are scams.

Anyway. The point of this rambler is- I’m trying to come back, guys! I want to do this and I will. Set backs will not rule me!

I’m going to take ugly pictures of my food, talk about my meals and exercise and do weigh ins! Here we go!
